Number (N)ine A/W 09

Number (N)ine A/W 09 show in Paris.
And bravo on the score. We just so happen to also love Milk and Honey.

All Things Thom

We love all things Radiohead and Thom Yorke, soloist. This 2009 Grammy poster is to die for. Words of songs influential to his life and career are inscribed, outlining his portrait. Such influences of Yorke's are from experimental and challenging artists such as Scott Walker ("Psoriatic"), the Liars ("The Wrong Coat for You Mt. Heart Attack"), and also a relatively unknown electronic act Modeselektor, whose "Kill Bill Vol. 4" is labeled on the forehead of the Radiohead singer, that have not been recognized by the Grammy's. Tune in February 8th for the Grammy's and cross fingers that Radiohead wins Album of the Year.

The Kanye West Crew

One of our favorite reads is Jak & Jil. The best shots from fashion week, by far. And sometimes more important than the shows themselves are the people that show up and what they are wearing. Shot outside the Comme des Garcons show in Paris, Kanye West and his crew come correct. A 2 second glance lends Goyard, Moncler, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Martin Margiela, MCM, Valextra and Lanvin straight to the brain!

Paris' Erotic Launch

Leave it to YSL to launch Paris fashion week with an erotic video. Ironically enough, we just watched "The Dreamers," a totally bizarro flick about an American student who gets caught up in a lovers dilemma with a woman AND her twin brother. And here, we see Michael Pitt himself, the star of The Dreamers, starring in this short erotic film. It's no more than his face, with the sexiest French voice-over (everything in French is sexy...). She could be reciting a pumpkin bread recipe, for all we know, so thank goodness for the subtitles. Some people have already criticized it as being absurd, but we think it amazing. Just the notion of creating poetic, one-sided dialogue, choosing the right face, the right tone of voice, the right medium, the right moment in time...is art.

Fashion Hits Slopes or Sloping Fashion?

Snow bunnies can ride the slopes with style on this Chanel snowboard. A sleek machine to help conquer the majestic peaks.

Your typical snowboard binding, an inspiration for...Balenciaga's Sportilettos.

Futurama

With the new year, new Mr. Pres and new inspirations, we're springing into what's to come! Taking cues from fashion visionaries, we're bucking tradition. Instead of looking back at 2008's do's (leggings) and dont's (rompers), designers have gone futuristic, displaying metallics, space age materials and architectural shapes. Take a peek into the future!

Simply Simple or Simply Simplistic

Images from Thom Browne's first showing of Fall at Pitti Uomo. He's got to be one of the most ironic designers out there. He puts on a show with 20 plus models, showcasing only 2 outfits, suiting and knits. With slicked hair, glasses, and this forced masculinity about them, it seems very Dick Tracy/1930s. Imagine if the new trend was to dress like your co-worker. Some of us would die, literally.

Hussein Chalayan exhibit

The London Design Museum is blessing us with an exhibit dedicated to, unarguably, one of the most genius designers of our time. Hussein Chalayan's memorable work started back in 1993 when he displayed dresses that he pulled out of the dirt in his backyard. What?
The exhibit, beginning January 22nd, is said to include wearable wooden tables, the LED Swarovski crystal light dress, as well as ‘Before Minus Now’—a dress made from aircraft construction materials that changes shape by remote control. Best known and loved for his ingenuity and constant innovation in shape and fabrics, we are curious to see how anyone could ever put together an exhibit that honors him properly.

Balenciaga Pre-Fall GENIUS

Every season there comes a collection that absolutely blows our minds. I'm talking, MELT YOUR FACE OFF. Nicolas Ghesquiere has completely outdone himself for Fall 09. Voluminous shapes, layered over-sized jackets, skinny drop crotch style pants, towering platform booties, *gasp platform FLAT boots, FUR ACCOUTERMENTS!! Heaven would be everyone dressed like this (minus the fur 'cuz that's just wrong).

Unibrow, Unicycle, Unicorn, UNISEX

There is a recurring theme.
Unibrow, Frida Kahlo = Amazing.
Unicycle, the ultimate fixed gear. Show me your unicycle, I dare you.
Unicorn, suspect of fantasy, the unattainable.
Unisex, far beyond borrowing your dad's blazer. The newest wave in directional fashion.

While some designers have built intentional unisex collections, stylephiles are busy making strong statements with pieces that can be worn by any gender. Ann Demeulemeester, one of our many addictions, compiles a collection so directional that every piece creates it's own path to heaven. Fashion heaven, that is. *gulp.

Damir Doma, another on our list of covetables, focuses on menswear, but could easily earn the right as favorite item in any woman's closet.

Eh hem, harem

While everyone thought the drop crotch would come and go like last year's boyfriend, we always knew it'd be around for everyone to enjoy just a little longer. Prada did a chino drop crotch in 07, Henrik Vibskov with the infamous drop crotch shorts in 08, and the harem pant in 09, for everyone to take a stab at. It's old news, really, but new news for those that have yet to try it out. Easily mistaken for poop in your pants, please don't attempt unless you have skinny legs. YOW!
