Futurama

With the new year, new Mr. Pres and new inspirations, we're springing into what's to come! Taking cues from fashion visionaries, we're bucking tradition. Instead of looking back at 2008's do's (leggings) and dont's (rompers), designers have gone futuristic, displaying metallics, space age materials and architectural shapes. Take a peek into the future!

Eh hem, harem

While everyone thought the drop crotch would come and go like last year's boyfriend, we always knew it'd be around for everyone to enjoy just a little longer. Prada did a chino drop crotch in 07, Henrik Vibskov with the infamous drop crotch shorts in 08, and the harem pant in 09, for everyone to take a stab at. It's old news, really, but new news for those that have yet to try it out. Easily mistaken for poop in your pants, please don't attempt unless you have skinny legs. YOW!

The Ladies of MiniMarket

While Fall is still in full swing, and we haven't even begun our holiday shopping, let's keep motivated by what's to come for next season. Afterall, we don't want to waste our energy on mindless articles that won't be valid next season. It's quite easy to entrust your closet (and money) with the ladies pictured here. Sisters Sofie, Pernilla and Jennifer Elvestadt have it under control.

The inspiration for SS09 derives from dark versions of Disney characters torn apart and pieced together with each other. The color scale includes midnight blue with bright red, bright green and electric blue. No more wimpy colors! It's all about cottons and silks, including an everlasting silk that won't disintegrate over time. So you can pass it to your baby's baby's baby's. The patterns are dominated by blurry dots and multi colored stripes. The shapes are square, boxy, and poofed. Lovely.

Nom de Guerre Sp09

The art collective produced by Holly, Wil Devon and Isa pushes through its street roots to bring a truly tailored collection of jackets, trousers and clean cut shirts. Mostly monochromatic looks, keeping with the theme of simplicity and longevity in style. Detailed with some army and safari inspirations, the collection stands for everyday classic separates. We'd like to see some prints and other dramatic embellishments, but I guess we'll leave that to someone else...

VPL Spring 09

Victoria Bartlett's new collection for VPL is all about parachute and flight. Pull strings, jumpsuits, draping viscose and shiny cotton flooded the runways last week at the VPL Spring 09 show. Headbands were prevalent, with elasticized backs and draping sides, one which was made exclusively for the ever-wearing headband socialite, Arden Wohl. Don't miss the work of Tiffany Tuddle, ballerina turned designer of LD Tuttle shoes, who made all the runway shoes. Unfortunately the runway photos do them no justice. Vibrantly bright, consistent with the colors of the collection, with highlighter elastics and rubber tubing details. The sandals are not to be missed for Spring.
More must haves: ruched body suit, linen shorts with pull ties, suspender bra top, crocheted vest and the shiny jumpsuit. VPL executes a beautifully creative collection, fusing progressive pieces with real wearable items. Bravo!

YMC Spring 09

Just a sneak preview of what's to come from the YMC women's collection...
With Fall 08 being the debut, it's always scares us to see whether or not a designer can be consistent. But seeing as how there's a quilted blazer, pleated mini skirt and high waisted loose trousers, we are pleased!

SUPER sunglasses

SUPER sunglasses are our new favorite accessory of the moment. After seeing them at Capsule in NY, and then again at Project in Vegas, we are committed to wearing sunglasses all year long.

Designed in similarity to the classic Wayfarer, SUPER steps it up with a slightly different frame and a high quality lens. Italian made with Carl Zeiss lenses, these sunglasses are the newest update to the old time classic. And by the way, aren't you ready for a new pair?

Fall styles come in next week. Purple frames with dark lenses, black frames with clear lenses, black flat style frames with gold mirrored lenses. You can even pop out the clear lenses to put in some prescription lenses if you want.

We Lova Lova

The economic and political outlook is bleak. Everyone is defaulting on their mortgages. But let's stay positive and focus on the things that we can effect NOW (and without too much thought). Menswear. Breaking through the barriers of everyday business casual, Lova has something innovative to offer. Tailored and well designed, with a spin on classic suiting, Lova gives us something to be excited about.

Debuting not but a season ago, Lova emphasizes slim fits, relaxed fabrics and a lifestyle all its own. Breaking the rules is one of our favorite past times. We'd love to see these guys mix and match some separates, wear the "wrong" style shoe, let the cuffs hang low, whatever...and make it all look perfect anyway.
